Sure their are plenty of other NOS's (Network Operating Software) and network clients around but this discussion is limited to the Microsoft family.
We also are focusing on TCP/IP as the default/only protocol. It is highly recommended that other protocols such as NetBEUI and IPX/SPX be removed to insure the best possible performance and to provide for a simpler environment that enables easier troubleshooting of TCP/IP setup issues or problems.
If you have one of the listed OS's you have all the networking software you need for your simple TCP/IP network right in the box! Except, that is, for Windows for Workgroups 3.11 which will require you to download the protected mode 32 bit TCP/IP client (remember: Windows for Workgroup 3.11 users only!) from the Microsoft site.
This was the easy part. Head over to setup page and we'll put this puppy to bed.
